Moondrop Chu 3: One Budget IEM I Keep Coming Back To
You don’t always need to spend big to enjoy good audio. Sometimes, a budget IEM just gets the job done.
That’s pretty much how I feel about the Moondrop Chu 3.
I’ve gone through quite a few budget IEMs, and let’s be honest—once you start collecting them, they can feel surprisingly similar. But the Chu 3 is one of those earphones I find myself grabbing when I just want to sit down, plug in, and listen. I do have the earlier Moondrop Chu 2 and it was also good, but its a different topic altogether.
I mostly use it for music, YouTube, gaming, and casual listening while working at my desk. It has that kind of sound that gives you enough detail to appreciate vocals and instruments without making everything feel like you’re sitting in a recording studio analyzing every note.
And for a budget IEM, I really like how small and have just the right weight for me to wear on long hours. I can wear it for quite a while without constantly thinking about my ears.
The Chu 3 uses a 10mm dynamic driver and comes with a detachable cable, which is something I always appreciate at this price point. If the cable eventually gives up, you don’t have to throw away the entire IEM.
Now, is it perfect?
Nope.
There are other IEMs I’d pick depending on the kind of sound you’re after. But that’s what I like about the Chu 3—it doesn’t need to be the best at everything.
It’s simply a good, affordable everyday IEM that I genuinely enjoy using.
And if you’re just getting into the IEM hobby, this is the kind of earphone I’d say is worth putting on your list.
